Greetings!

My name is DONG Xianliang, also known as DONG Yan, a scholar and art practitioner.

In 2021, I earned my PhD from the Department of Chinese and History at City University of Hong Kong. My research is centred around the intersection of three main subjects: the body, language, and materials. Through my work, various representations are explored across different historical periods, geographical areas, and mediums, ranging from early modern Chinese medical books, to Sinophonic contemporary performances, to Cold War sociocultural events.

I have worked as an academic fellow at several institutions, including The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and, starting in June 2023, Hong Kong Baptist University. In addition to scholarly pursuits, I am engaged in collaborating with libraries, museums, performing arts groups, and individual artists, aiming to transform knowledge into innovative practice. Currently, my enthusiasm focuses on collecting and archiving histories within the dance field to preserve Hong Kong’s performing arts legacy.
